Final mishap ruins a near-perfect weekend for Lando Norris in the WSK Super Masters Series
ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was left to rue his bad luck after a near-perfect weekend was ruined at the last hurdle in the WSK Super Masters Series.
The 14-year-old racer had put on one of his most complete performances since moving up from KFJ and looked certain for a podium if not a win in Laghi.
But after getting clipped and pushed off the track in the final he was left in last place – and had to be content with an impressive come back that saw him take on over half of the drivers and get back to 12th.
However, Lando could take plenty of positives away from the weekend.
He said: “The team got everything a bit better and my driving was better and so everything felt back to how it should be this weekend.
“We were pretty unlucky really. I should have got the win or at the very least a podium.
“The pace was there as always, but everything seemed to click into place.
“But these things happen and I did well to come back in the final like I didLando was fastest in all three practices on the Friday and took this speed into qualifying where he was the fastest in his group and fastest overall.
It was the same story in all three heats. In the first two he managed to get a good gap and win comfortably, while the third saw a bit more of a battle with another driver – yet Lando came out on top.
The Glastonbury racer started the pre-final in first place and got a lead until he pushed a bit to hard on a corner and was overtaken by two drivers.
With three laps to go he managed to get in front of one of them, but couldn’t quite do enough to get the win.
It meant he began the final in third place and on the inside lane.
Lando went to go round the outside of the driver in front and as he did so another driver tried to do the same to him, with his front wheel clipping Lando’s rear wheel.
It sent Lando off the track and almost into the barriers.
By the time he got back on he was in last place and spent the remainder of the race overtaking as many in front of him as he could– moving up from 32nd to 12th by the end.
He added: “The weekend was so much better, it was really disappointing to finish like this.
“Now I know we are back, I will be a lot more confident going into the races.
“We’ve been fast, but something seems to have happened to stop me being able to get up there each time.
“I think the next few rounds and races I’ll be pushing for podiums again and hopefully getting back to what I did last year.”
