F1 invite for Porsche Club racers

Two drivers from the Michelin Porsche Club Championship and the Michelin Porsche Open will be guests of Michelin during Formula 1 tyre testing at Silverstone on 2 June.

The recipients of the unique opportunity will be John Williams (Club Championship) and Henry Firman (Open) after their names were drawn from a hat during the recent double-header weekend at Snetterton.

"Michelin is a keen supporter of the two race series from the Porsche Club GB and as a company we were keen to give the guys something a little special. John and Henry are racing on our products in their Porsches, and this will give them a chance to see what it is like at the very top of the sport," says Michelin's John Cheadle.

"We are extremely grateful to John and everyone at Michelin for making this possible," says Steve Kevlin, Motorsport Manager for the Porsche Club GB. "You sometimes hear about young single-seater aces getting opportunities like this, but this is a chance for a couple of slightly more experienced racers to get close to Formula 1 cars and technology!"

Williams has been winning Porsche races for more than a decade and was champion in 1995, 1999 and 2000. He has already been a race winner this season in the Club Championship with his 3.2 Carrera. Firman, meanwhile, is racing a 911GT3 Cup in the Open in his second full season of racing. He was a class winner at Croft in April.
