The West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship has today (Wednesday 16 April) hit a major landmark with the arrival of the 100th championship registration.Against a backdrop of a generally difficult time for forest rallying, the championship has enjoyed outstanding competitor support for the first three events of the seven-round 2014 championship. The opening event, the Red Kite Stages, attracted 60 registered contenders while round two, the Mid Wales Stages, set a new record for the championship with 75 contenders. The entry list for round three, the Tour of Hamsterley, shows 62 registered contenders. While the number of drivers registered has now hit the championship’s ambitious target of 100, a further 83 co-drivers are registered so the championship has a total of 183 competitors to date, with still more likely to come.Significantly, the registrations are from across the historic categories and include 21 in Category 1 for the pre ’68 cars. The list takes in 26 models of car from 19 manufacturers, showing the great diversity of historic rallying.Championship manager Colin Heppenstall said: “When we launched the 2014 championship we set ourselves the goal of reaching 100 registered contenders in 2014 and I’m delighted that we have hit that target before round three. We had 90 registrations last year so a 10% increase for 2014, so far, is very pleasing and I’d like to thank each and every competitor for supporting the championship.”The 2014 WWRS R.A.C. Rally Championship continues on the Tour of Hamsterley (26 April) and more details are available from www.tourofhamsterley.co.ukThe West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship is the only championship that runs historics first on the road on all events.
