Murphy Prototypes have got their 2014 European Le Mans Series season off to a solid start with their new trio of drivers Karun Chandhok, Rodolfo Gonzalez and Alex Kapadia.Despite suffering a fuel line problem which left them in the pits for the early part of free practice one, once Karun Chandhok got on track in the Hertz Car Sales Oreca 03 Nissan he managed to set a time of 1:52.881 putting them sixth overall. Both Rodolfo Gonzalez and Alex Kapadia had brief stints in the car before the session’s end allowing them to familiarise themselves with both car and circuit ahead of free practice two.Rodolfo Gonzalez started free practice two for the team. After a good stint placing the car in fifth position, he pitted to hand the car over to Karun Chandhok. Within minutes of going on track, Chandhok was running in second position with a time of 1:50.444. Alex Kapadia was last to climb on board and despite being an LMP2 newcomer, had a very impressive session. Lapping consistently throughout the latter part of free practice two, Murphy Prototypes finished the 90 minutes session in fifth position.Karun Chandhok, #48:“The afternoon was significantly better than the morning. We had a productive afternoon, we ran through the whole programme and all three drivers got to do what we wanted to do. We’ve got some good information on the tyres in particular so at least we know strategy wise what we need to do to optimise the race. The main thing is we’ve got a car that’s very comfortable and stable to drive. I think we are in decent shape for the race.”Alex Kapadia, #48:“Free practice two went really really well for us. We made some good setup changes to the car and I got a decent long run at the end of the stint on a long race type simulation run with high fuel load and it was good. I got within a couple of tenths of Karun’s qualifying run so I think we’re very very strong and we’ll definitely be ones to watch in the race.”Rodolfo Gonzalez, #48:“I think we have a pretty consistent car for the race distance. My session one and two was a little frustrating as we a little problem with the car and couldn’t do a very clean run. But I know what I am doing around Silverstone so I’m pretty happy where I am. I’m sure that tomorrow we can show some good pace and both Alex and Karun have shown really good pace today.”Greg Murphy, Owner, Murphy Prototypes:“Today went well. We have new drivers for the start of the year with Karun being the only one we’ve worked with before. For Rodolfo and Alex free practice one was effectively a shakedown, as we didn’t have a chance to do a proper shakedown before the event to iron out any bugs. Our second session was a lot better running second quickest for most of the session before being bumped down to fifth by the end. However we were working through our own programme that went really well. The three drivers did a great job so we are very happy with today.”
