19th Subida Internacional Ubrique-Benaocaz Hillclimb

The Andalusian hillclimb with seventy-two vehicles has brought together a large group of outstanding and experienced Spanish drivers and some of the most spectacular racing cars on the European stage with prototypes, CM cars, GTs and touring cars extremely well-represented.

All is set for the 19th edition of the Subida Internacional Ubrique-Benaocaz taking place this weekend in the South of Spain and once again the race counts towards the FIA International Hill Climb Cup, the Spanish Hill Climb Championship and the Andalusian championship.

After the official launch of the race held in Cadiz two days ago it is nearly time for the growing number of drivers to hit the road (A-2302), with a length of 4,450 meters.

Andrés Vilarino, winner in Ubrique last year, is back but driving a new Osella 2000 and with a clear goal in mind: to repeat his win. Maybe one of his strongest rivals may be his daughter Ángela Vilarino. At the wheel of her Norma 3000 Basque Country´s young driver can become a serious concern to several experienced hill-climb drivers. Bango enters no less than three CM cars driven by Javier Villa, Jonathan Álvarez and Jairo Pesquera and its models BRC B-49 and EVO-05. Another famous brand in this kind of race, Silver Car, will field four other cars for Joseba Iraola, Antonio de los Ríos, Francisco Javier Pérez and Antonio Ordoñez.

With regard to E2 cars, José Antonio López Fombona will be on the starting line driving his spectacular Audi A4 DTM and it is worth mentioning Juan Trino debuting his small but quick SEAT S600. Among GT cars, seven of these vehicles have joined this year´s edition. Three Porsches 997 GT3 Cup for José Antonio Aznar, Manuel Maldonado and Pedro Cordero, Raúl Borreguero´s Mosler MT900R, Bernardo Arrabali and his Nissan 350Z, the British racer Michael Roy Anderson and his Ginetta G50 GT4 and a new Lotus Exige 240 R driven by José García.

Group A is always spectacular and 2014 is not an exception including names such as Pedro Morera (Subaru Imprez WRC), José Carlos Lirola (Peugeot 207 THP) or Aldo de Alberto (SEAT Córdoba WRC). Last minute additions are Julián Bornas and his new FIAT Punto S1600 and Hungary´s Laszlo Hernadi behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VIII. In Group N names like Sergio Panella, José Blanco or Antonio Luis Romero will drive three Mitsubishis Lancer EVO IX and, among classic cars, Rafael Serratosa (TVR Griffith), Antonio Noguera (Lotus Elan) or Miguel Ángel Clemente (SEAT 124) did not want to miss this race.

Administrative checking and technical scrutineering are scheduled on Friday, and then on Saturday morning practicewill take place. Race one is due to start on Saturday at 17.30 and, on Sunday, race two and three at 11.30 and 13.30 respectively.
