28 year old fitness instructor Kelly Jayne Wells will make history on Sunday 6th June when she joins the grid for the Pickup Truck Racing Championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Kelly Jayne completed her oval racing rookie test six weeks ago at Rockingham and will become the first lady racer to compete in the 2 litre engine ‘utes’ on the 1.5 mile oval circuit. It’s another first for the Kent lass who was the first lady to race in the class on its’ inception in 1997, contesting selected rounds. “I’m coming home, back where I belong after nearly seven years away,” says Kelly-Jayne. “There’s a real buzz about the events at Rockingham. The Pickup Trucks are a stunning formula to watch and race in. I can’t wait to get out there again”
Prior to racing on the circuits Kelly-Jayne raced on the small ovals in Ministox from age 11 to 17 and reached the top rankings (‘Superstar’ grade) competing against the likes of Ian McKellar jnr.
As well as Pickup Trucks Kelly-Jayne has also raced in the Legends Cars Championship (6th place in 1996), Formula Ford 1600 and had a one-off race in the ex Stefano Modena EuroBrun Formula One car last year in the EuroBoss Championship. In addition she is a fully qualified motor racing instructor.
