Subida Internacional Ubrique-Benaocaz Hillclimb a resounding uccess

Sunday, the second day of competition in Ubrique brought surprises as Ángela Vilarino claimed the win in the International Hill Climb Cup and Categoría 1 in race two driving her Norma 3000 after father Andrés was hit by mechanical problems with his Osella 2000  and was forced to miss the race.

In the final race, Vilarino Sr. stormed to victory setting a new record (2:10.596) in the Subida Internacional Ubrique-Benaocaz His  daughter took the overall win in the European Cup and in the Categoría I of the Spanish championship.

Categoría 2, with CM cars and José Antonio López-Fombona´s Audi A4 DTM, was dominated by Javi Villa once again clinching two wins. In race two Villa took advantage of his BRC B49 beating by two seconds López-Fombona´s time and then in race three, going faster than anyone else again. Jairo Pesquera (BRC B49) and Joseba Iraola (Silver Car S2) finished third in race two and race three respectively.

The masses of cars taking part in the Categoría 3 saw another close-fight between Raúl Borreguero, with the Mosler MT900 R, and José Antonio Aznar, with a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. Finally Borreguero managed to win both races ahead of Aznar. Sergi Pañella, always brilliant in his Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, ended up third in race two – and winner in Group N- ahead of Manuel Maldonado (Porsche 997 GT3 Cup) and Juan Trino (SEAT S600). Pedro Cordero (Porsche 997 GT3 Cup) finished on the podium in race three with Maldonado fourth again. Sergi Pañella grabbed another victory in Group N class in the final race with José Blanco and Jesús Chao, with similar Mitsubishi-built cars, second and third twice. Alberto Chao (SEAT Córdoba WRC) left no options in Group A winning with Julián Bornás (FIAT Punto S1600) second.

Among historic cars, Miguel Ángel Clemente (SEAT 124 FL) finished first on Saturday but Rafael Sarratosa (TVR Griffith) won on Sunday both races. Regarding the Andalusian championship, Antonio de los Ríos (Silver Car S2) was able to beat Aznar and Francisco Javier Pérez (Silver Car S2) in race two and the Porsche driver (Aznar), claimed the final race.
