Lando Norris looks forward to Ginetta Junior Championship

after disappointment in the WSK Super Masters Series

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was left disappointed after a crash in the final of the WSK Super Masters Series prevented him contending for any honours.

The 14-year-old racer clipped the rear of another driver on the first corner, effectively ending his race almost as soon as it had begun. He valiantly battled back from 34th place to finish 10th – and felt as though he would have been in contention for a podium after another consistently fast weekend in the third round at La Conca.

But instead, he now looks forward to getting behind the wheel of a car again, with the next round of the Ginetta Junior Championship days away.

He said: “If I hadn’t clipped that driver, it would have been a different story, but these things happen.

“A few of my starts weren’t great, but I was pretty fast again - although I didn’t get many opportunities to get to the front and pull away.“I was really pleased to get back to 10th after that start, it shows the pace is definitely there.”

Lando qualified second overall, despite starting off in a bad position.

He began Heat 1 in second place, but after making contact with another driver early on found himself back in 8th and unable to get back up with the leaders.Heat 2 saw Lando start in second place again, but he lost some ground to find himself back in 10th. He recovered well to finish 6th.

He started the third heat in pole and in a half wet, half dry race, the team opted for slicks which got better and better as the race progressed. He was in first place until sliding on a wet patch which left him third.

Heat 4 saw Lando start off in second and get an early lead. He managed to make the most of it by pulling away for the first time over the weekend and ended the race in first place. The Glastonbury racer began the pre final in third and after a good start, pushed a little too hard on a corner and was overtaken, leaving him finish in fifth.

He began the final in 10th, but after clipping another driver’s rear, went over a kerb and span, leaving him languishing at the back in 34th.But through a mixture of speed, determination and skill Lando managed to get right back up to 10th place by the end.

After the race he found out he had received a 10 second penalty for overtaking under yellow.

But now it’s all about next weekend when he goes into the next round of the Ginetta Junior Championship, where he currently sits third. He said: “It was a disappointing weekend, but I’ve got the Ginetta to look forward to now.

“I’ve adapted really well, I’ve found it quite easy to go from kart to cars as it’s so different.

“I’m third and hoping to push on again this week, so really looking forward to it.
