Rally Organisers provide local authorities & emergency services with advance briefing - Wales Rally GB - 16th 19th September 2004
The organisers of Wales Rally GB have sustained their commitment to spectator safety on the event with a detailed advance briefing on all aspects of safety for the local authorities and emergency services in Wales.
Attended by more than 40 representatives of each of the local authorities that will see the Rally come through their regions in September, the Spectator Safety Briefing was held at Cardiff City Hall on 26th May 2004. Featuring presentations from Sue Sanders-Peppit, Spectator Safety Officer, Andy Large, Chief Safety Officer and Dr Phil Rayner, Chief Medical Officer, it provided a comprehensive overview of the plans for safety, spectator safety and medical/rescue for the event.
“Our focus never strays from safety for Wales Rally GB and it was very encouraging to have such a high attendance from all the local authorities and other Welsh partners involved in the event at the briefing” confirmed Claire Parker, Sporting Manager. “The audience encompassed a wide range of job functions from the police and emergency services to those involved in managing the impact of the event on their local community. There was a diversity of experience in rallying too with a number of newcomers, combined with the more experienced who have been involved in the event for years.
“The feedback we have already received indicates that everyone feels we already have a well proven and well organised plan of action, backed up by open communication in the run-up to the event. This can only bode well for September.
“Last year’s Wales Rally GB was a fantastic event with all the stages and other controls working very well” concluded Claire Parker. “And we feel confident that we can continue to improve on our performance for this year’s event, thanks to the excellent partnership we have with the local authorities and other organisations throughout Wales with whom we work.”
