(SPEEDWAY 1 – MONDAY REVIEW)
PRZEMYSLAW Pawlicki produced a dramatic Heat 15 overtaking move to force a 45-45 draw for Poole at Wolverhampton in a Bank Holiday thriller. The lead changed hands between the clubs four times over 14 heats with the Pirates going into the decider two-up, only for Tai Woffinden and Pawlicki’s brother Piotr to hit the front for the home side. But the Pirates man moved through on the inside to give the visitors two points from the meeting and leave Wolves with one from their second home draw of the season.Wolves boss Peter Adams said: “We are definitely disappointed - a draw against Poole isn't a disastrous result but we need to be winning our home meetings. We've dropped quite a few points at home already this season now which is frustrating and we know we need to correct that.“It was a tough night but we just need to pick ourselves up and make sure we get something from Birmingham on Wednesday because we really need to.”Elsewhere in the Elite League, a last-heat 5-1 from Hans Andersen and Chris Harris secured maximum points for Coventry in a 49-41 win over leaders Lakeside. The Hammers could still have forced a draw going into the final race, despite Davey Watt having withdrawn with a hand injury mid-meeting, but the previously unbeaten Mikkel Bech came to grief when challenging the Bees duo.Coventry boss Gary Havelock said: “It was a real team effort, the meeting really ebbed and flowed, but when you look through our team it was solid all the way through.“Some guys had some bad rides but they got their heads down and the vital thing at the end was that when the chips were down, Hans and Chris produced the goods. I’m really pleased with the team.”Swindon were frustrated by the weather as they led Birmingham 26-19 when rain forced an early abandonment at the Abbey Stadium after seven races.Robins boss Alun Rossiter said: “It was the right decision to abandon the meeting but I'm gutted about it. We can only do our best, I'd like to thank the fans for coming along tonight but the rain had the last word. That's the way it goes sometimes.”In the Premier League, Edinburgh’s remarkable winning run is now up to ten matches thanks to a 48-43 win in a terrific contest at Scunthorpe.Craig Cook and Max Fricke secured the Monarchs’ latest victory with a 5-1 in Heat 15 after the Scorpions had hit back strongly from an early ten-point deficit.Cook said: “It was an awesome effort. I found I was getting nervous as the match went on, usually I start nervous then relax but it was the other way round!”Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “The first two heats were dreadfully disappointing; we can’t afford to start a meeting like that. We showed a bit of spirit to come back into it, but it just wasn’t enough.”Newcastle overcame the early loss of Chris Schramm with bruising – with the Diamonds already using rider replacement for Anton Rosen - to force a 45-45 draw at Ipswich in a meeting which boiled up to a dramatic climax. With the scores level going into the last race, home man Rohan Tungate was penalised 15 metres for delaying the start – but he made up the gap to pass Lewis Kerr for third place on the run to the line as Ludvig Lindgren took the race win for the Diamonds.Newcastle boss George English said: “I always believed we had a point or two in us for this match, and the lads pulled out the stops and proved they are not as bad as they have appeared to be of late and at last we have points on the board.”Ipswich manager Chris Louis said: “It’s two points lost as far as I’m concerned. Fair play to Newcastle, but they came here with a rider down and then lost a reserve before he’d completed a race. We should not have struggled against a side down by two men and should have taken the win!”In the National League, Kent overcame Mildenhall 48-40 in an incident-filled encounter at Central Park with both teams suffering injury problems.Luke Chessell (bruising) joined Benji Compton and Brandon Freemantle on the sidelines for the Kings, but maximum man Ben Morley combined with David Mason for a crucial Heat 15 5-1.Mason said: “To take all three league points when it looked at one stage as if we wouldn’t get anything was pretty special. I knew going out in Heat 15 that Ben and I needed a 3-3 to win the meeting but to get a 5-1 was fantastic.”Mildenhall went into the meeting without Josh Bates, who was declared unfit, with Joe Jacobs already missing due to Elite League duty, leaving chairman Kevin Jolly frustrated to miss out.He said: “It was a difficult afternoon for us without both Joe and Josh, but I have nothing but praise for the lads who gave everything on a difficult track that became more so as the meeting progressed. When I look back we really should have taken all four points, as we were in good positions in so many heats before the track or some inexperience stopped us in our tracks.”Devon No.1 Tim Webster scored a 15-point maximum as the Demons collected a 61-29 away win at Scunthorpe, with Ben Reade, Matt Bates and Richard Andrews also scoring major points.Co-promoter Ashley Taylor said: “It was a good team effort all round with the lads all working well together. We know that other teams have done well at Scunthorpe so it was important that we came away with a good win, which we did by scoring over 60 points.”Stags manager Richard Hollingsworth was pleased with his side, who lost Ryan MacDonald with bruising in a Heat 4 crash – with Liam Sanderson taking their sole win in Heat 14.Hollingsworth said: “We saw real progress today. Apart from poor Ryan, who is a bit battered and bruised from his fall, all the other lads came close to winning a race at one point or another. Liam rode a much better meeting and he can be pleased with himself, he rode a lovely Heat 14 to see off Richard Andrews.”
(SPEEDWAY 2 – TUESDAY PREVIEW)
PETERBOROUGH co-boss Blayne Scroggins is backing his side to become the first to end Edinburgh’s remarkable winning run when the sides meet at the Showground. The Monarchs have reeled off a club record-equalling ten wins in succession at the start of the season, and the Panthers know the size of the task in hand ahead of the Premier League clash.Scroggins said: “Edinburgh have made a sensational start to the season and their record speaks for itself. But we have largely been impressive ourselves and we are determined to bring their winning run to an end.“It is obviously going to be a massive task, but to be the best you have to beat the best. Our momentum is building nicely with that memorable league win over Newcastle in front of the Sky Sports cameras last Tuesday being followed by a terrific victory at Plymouth which clinched our place in the semi-finals of the League Cup.“We also picked up a decent point at Rye House in our final League Cup group fixture on Sunday and we’re raring to go against Edinburgh. We are going into the meeting with every intention of collecting maximum points.”

BELLE Vue have made a change at reserve with locally-based Lee Payne handed an Elite League opportunity in place of Ben Reade.Stoke regular Payne came to the attention of the Aces’ management at the suggestion of skipper Craig Cook backed by recommendations from former Belle Vue stars Joe Screen and Peter Carr – and the club have also confirmed Steve Worrall has joined their asset base after successful negotiations with Scunthorpe.Co-promoter George Carswell said: “Lee is a good northern lad who comes from a very similar background to the Worrall brothers. He's made excellent progress in a very short period and we felt that this was the next step up for him to make his mark in the sport.“We're very sorry things didn't work out with Ben, but the reserves are going to be very important this year and we felt that if he had stayed on with us it was just going to destroy his confidence, and that’s the last thing we wanted to happen.”
(SPEEDWAY 4)
SCUNTHORPE have signed Nicolai Klindt on a 28-day deal to cover for injured No.1 Anders Mellgren.Klindt, who recently lost his team place with Elite League Swindon, had a successful spell with the Scorpions last season and is set to make his seasonal debut at Berwick on Saturday subject to approval.Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m delighted that Nicolai is back with the club. He’s in for at least 28 days – perhaps for longer. Anders is so determined to get back as soon as possible, so there’s every chance at the end of those 28 days that he will be ready to come back. “We’ll look where we are at the end of that spell, to see where we are with the team, and whether we need to change things around. We won’t be letting anyone go who is scoring points, but the presence of Nicolai gives us options going forwards.”
