Jamie Caroline delivered an absolutely outstanding performance for Total Control Racing during the third race meeting of the Ginetta Junior Championship season at Thruxton over the weekend, 3rd/4th May – finishing runner-up in round five and then sealing his maiden car racing victory in round six.As well as marking the 14-year-old’s first success since graduating into cars at the start of the year, the sensational hard-fought win at the fastest track on the Ginetta Junior calendar was also the first victory for TCR in the category.Adding the bonus point for the fastest race lap in the opening encounter on Saturday, Caroline’s major points haul has enabled him to rocket up from seventh in the driver standings into the top four – just five points shy of second place.Further north, at Rockingham in Northamptonshire, TCR’s Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge squad was in action on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, 5th May, where George Gamble leapt to the top of the championship with a win and two further podiums.“Absolutely awesome”, said team principal Lee Brookes, “It’s been a fantastic weekend for us at Thruxton and Rockingham. Two meetings back I said we could have this win in the Juniors and at last we’ve got it, the team is so happy. Jamie is going to get quicker and quicker, he has superb talent and racecraft and this is just the start of what people will see from him. I’m so glad he’s with TCR.“George had another superb weekend in the Ginetta Challenge, three more podiums and another win is a fantastic set of results and he thoroughly deserves to be leading the championship. He’s such a great young driver and with a bit more luck, he could have had at least two wins.”Caroline and Chapman both impress at daunting ThruxtonIn addition to Caroline’s stunning weekend in Hampshire, Ginetta Junior team-mate Matt Chapman also produced a terrific showing on his Thruxton debut to climb into 13th position in the standings. He took a season’s best seventh place in Saturday’s fifth round and the first year racer added an equally competitive eighth in round six.Lining up fifth on the grid for race two, Caroline made an excellent start and climbed into the top three before grabbing second on lap two. Pressuring front-row starter Ben Pearson for the lead, Caroline made the breakthrough with a superb pass on lap four and although nudged back to second a couple of laps later, the TCR teenager hit back on the seventh tour and held the lead to the finish.Chapman maintained 12th position off the start and remained there until lap seven when he broke into the top 10. Gaining two more places on the final lap, Chapman completed his best weekend yet with a fine eighth place. In Saturday’s opening race, Caroline made a terrific start and fortunately avoided being caught-up in a tangle at the complex to emerge in fifth position. Taking fourth on lap two, he rapidly closed down the two second gap to the top three and posted the fastest lap as he reeled them in. Grabbing third on lap seven at Allard, the TCR racer spectacularly moved into second at the complex.Chapman started round five in ninth position and, like Caroline, picked his way through the opening lap chaos well to head into the second tour in sixth almost nose-to-tail with his team-mate. Elbowed back to seventh at the chicane on lap three, the car racing newcomer was sandwiched in a very tight battle over the top six and grabbed the place on lap five before being nudged back a lap later.“Matt has had a good consistent weekend, it’s not what he wants – he wants to be up there fighting for the podium – but we know he’s only going to get stronger”, said Brookes, “I’m confident and have no doubt before too long Matt will be joining Jamie up there on the podium.”Gamble class of field at Rockingham as Pointon takes season best finishIn the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Gamble got his weekend off to the ideal start with pole position for round four of the season and after making a great getaway he didn’t put a wheel wrong before utterly dominating the encounter. Increasing his lead lap after lap, Gamble went on to win by 6.4 seconds.Team-mate Callum Pointon, who qualified sixth fastest, was unfortunately shuffled back to 11th on lap one but mounted a great recovery and was back into the top eight on lap two. Into the closing stages, the Cheddleton driver grabbed seventh and then climbed back into sixth a lap later. In round five on Monday, Gamble lost out to Gary Simms at the start but spent the remainder of the contest trying everything possible to regain first place. Pressuring Simms throughout the nine lap race, Gamble shadowed his rival all the way to the flag – only 0.3 seconds splitting them at the finish.Pointon, starting in an excellent fifth place thanks to his second fastest lap from qualifying, was elbowed down to the tail of the field on lap one but mounted a sensational recovery to climb back into the top 12 before the conclusion. For round six, Gamble lined-up in second position but a tough first lap left him down in seventh place. Serving up a great recovery, the TCR ace sliced his way back through the order and moved into the top three by lap six. Taking second soon after, he was only edged back to third on the last lap.Pointon made superb progress himself from the sixth row of the grid and after breaking into the top 10 on the first lap, he continued his upward ascent to move into the top six with just a couple of laps remaining. He rounded out the weekend an improved eighth in the provisional driver standings.“Callum’s definitely getting closer to getting on that podium, he’s qualifying well and racing well and just needs a bit more luck to go his way”, commented team boss Brookes, “It’s been another very strong weekend for him, he’s moved up the championship and we’re delighted with his progress.”Total Control Racing’s Ginetta Junior Championship team will be back in action on 7th/8th June at Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire while the Ginetta GT5 Challenge squad will be back on track a week prior, on 31st May/1st June, at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire.Provisional 2014 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge Driver Standings (after Rd6):1st George Gamble, 186pts; 8th Callum Pointon, 79ptsProvisional 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship Driver Standings (after Rd6):4th Jamie Caroline, 125pts; 13th Matt Chapman, 46pts
