Crash dents Lando Norris's progress in Ginetta Junior Championship

ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was left disappointed after a crash put the brakes on his progress in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

He was pushed onto the verge and then crashed in Race 1, leaving him unable to finish.

And in Race 2, he soon realized the steering was still faulty from the earlier crash, meaning he couldn’t reach the heights of the previous round.

Despite the setback, Lando remained upbeat after seeing the pace was there at Thruxton Circuit to be back in contention at the next round.

He said: “I was pretty disappointed, the car felt really good before the crash and we were really strong. I would have been up there.

“The crash was frustrating as I was in third at the time, but in the second race I just couldn’t control the car and it had a mind of its own.

“It’s annoying, but the pace is there so I’m sure we’ll be back up there next time.”

After two-second place finishes at Donington Park, Lando went into this weekend full of confidence. He was happy to qualify in 5th and 3rd place, but felt he could have been even faster and finished in a better position if he had concentrated on his own race.

The 14-year-old got off to a great start in Race 1, managing to get up to third place but as he went on the outside, another car went on the inside of the driver Lando was overtaking meaning they were three abreast.

Slowly, he was pushed further and further across and when the track tightened up he was forced on to the grass verge and went into someone.

It left the front end of his car damaged and his steering bent and was the end of his race.

Lando got off to a good start in Race 2 but knew straight away something wasn’t right with his steering which had been replaced. It was totally unpredictable and he was forced to drive at a much slower pace in order to get around and did well to finish as high as 11th.

He added: “It was pretty dangerous really, we found out later something wasn’t holding one of the wheels properly in place.

“I managed to get around, but I had to go slowly to make sure I finished. There wasn’t anything I could do.

“The pace was there in practice and in qualifying so it’s something to take into the next round.

“I probably could have been Top 3 if things had gone our way, so I know I can be back up there next time.

“Hopefully we’ll have the chance to put it right.”
