Jordan makes top three

Sutton Coldfield teenager Andrew Jordan claimed a top three overall position on Sunday (30 May) in round four of the British Junior Rallycross Championship at the Knockhill circuit near Dunfermline.Andrew (14) was competing in his Mini as usual but was forced to revert to his old engine, which was a little less powerful than his new engine. However, despite that handicap, he raced superbly to take two wins and a second place in his three heats in the build up to the final. His heat results put Andrew on the outside of the front row of the grid for the final, but the race was destined not to take place as worsening dust left conditions too dangerous for racing. Instead, championship points were awarded on the basis of the grid positions for the final, which effectively gave Andrew his first podium score in the British Junior Championship.Had the race, gone ahead, Andrew was confident of being able to battle with the two cars ahead of him. Nonetheless, points for third place have kept him third in the championship and closer to the driver in second place in the standings."It's the best he's ever driven," reckoned Andrew's father Mike. "We've got the car handling really well and I think he could even have won the final if it had gone ahead. He did everything I've tried to teach him about race craft," added Mike. The championship continues at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire on 20 June for round five.
