Vaclav Milik named as Czech Republic FIM Speedway GP wild card

Czech international Vaclav Milik is set for his World Championship debut after being named as wild card for the Czech Republic FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Prague on May 31.

Milik has established himself as by far the nation’s brightest speedway prospect and appeared for the Czech team when they finished fourth in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final at the Marketa Stadium last July.

The Pardubice-born man, who races for his hometown team, also appeared in the Grand Prix Challenge at Poole last August – the final round of the SGP qualification series – scoring five points.

That result earned Milik his British Elite League debut with champions Poole for this season, where he has made a very promising start to his UK career and is averaging around 6.33 points.

The 20-year-old, who turns 21 on May 22, dons the No.16 race jacket after previous Prague appearances as a track reserve.

Milik – the defending Czech Under-21 champion – is joined at the Marketa Stadium by this year’s reserves No.17 Zdenek Holub and No.18 Roman Cejka.

Cejka finished second to Milik in the Czech Under-21 Championship while Holub was third overall.

The referee for the Czech SGP is Jesper Steentoft from Denmark.
