Rain master de Vries scores a double on the street of Pau

Nyck de Vries wins both races of the second venue of Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS at the end of an astonishing weekend.

After having seized race 1 on Saturday, during yesterday’s race 2, under a pouring rain, the team Koiranen GP driver had once more no rivals setting an unparalleled pace for everyone. Behind him several mistakes and contacts forced several retirements as the outcome of the weather and of the characteristic of the street circuit.

On podium also Charles Leclerc, capable in remaining in the leading group without committing mistakes, and the Swiss Hugo De Sadeleer, at his first podium this year in the Fast Lane Promotion series.

THE REPORT. Alex Bosak (Prema Powerteam) and Thiago Vivacqua (Fortec Motorsports) do not take their place on the grid. Similar problem for George Russell, stuck on the grid just before the recognition lap and thus forced to join the race from the pit lane. The green flag is given under the safety car procedure due to the heavy rain. Once the safety is recalled de Vries is chased by Matevos Isaakyan. Simon Gachet attacks and passes Alessio Rovera, who is also outpassed by Leclerc at the first corner after the main straight. In the meantime Ben Barnicoat recovers sixth right behind Rovera. Than a series of spins force to retire Marek Boeckmann (against the barriers while he was 15th), Rovera, and Gachet who is able though to rejoin the track before a further mistake at “Lycée Barthou”.

In the same corner new crash this time for Barnicoat. Three cars crash at lap 10 among Kang Ling, James Allen and Dennis Anoschin, with the first than spins and forces the crash between the other two. Same fate for Akash Nandy and for the runner up Isaakyan who thus gives way to Leclerc. Under the chequered flag the two Tech 1 Racing drivers, De Sadeleer and Philo Paz Patric Armand chased by the best of the Fortec Motorsports cars driven by Martin Kodric. Positive result also for the two BVM Racing, Dario Capitanio and Semen Estigneev, respectively sixth and seventh, as the TS Corse Italians Matteo Gonfiantini and Pietro Peccenini, tenth and eleventh.

Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS will be back on track next 25th of May on the Austrian circuit of Red Bull Ring.
