Round 3: Tour of the Sperrins Rally, 10 May

Derek McGarrity won the Tour of the Sperrins Rally to seal his third consecutive victory.

Heavy rain made the conditions tricky for the 85 starters. Needing a boost after retiring from the previous round, Desi Henry opened up a 16-second lead after four stages. However engine problems side-lined the crew on the fifth test and McGarrity swept through to take victory.

Alan Carmichael and Ivor Lamont took second in their Mini, almost a minute behind the winners. Topping the two-wheel-drive race in a fabulous third place were Camillus Bradley and Crawford Henderson in their 2.5 MK2 Escort.
