The narrow street circuit of Pau offered Riccardo Agostini the chance to show off his skills during the second race, under the heavy rain which levelled the performances of the cars.
The Italian driver scored the best time in the second sector and set the second quickest time of the race. The third round of the FIA F3 European Championship hasn’t offered much to the Eurointernational racer, who despite the Friday’s qualifying fast performance, when he signed the eighth best time of his group (undoubtedly the most competitive one), only half second from the pole.
In the difficult track of Pau, prohibitive for overtaking, Agostini, even if penalised by set-up problems, has proved that he can make the difference. Unfortunately he was forced to withdraw during Race 1, when he was so close to gaining more points, because of a gearbox problem. During Race 2, the young Italian racer, starting 20th at the grid, has been protagonist of a great comeback, which allowed him a 14th position under the rain. “It was a pity, because things could have been even better. - commented Riccardo - Just at three laps from the end there was a safety-car because a few cars, after a collision, have completely blocked off the track, leaving me and many others stuck together. If it wasn’t enough, Menezes came upon my car causing damage to the wing”.
The last race on Sunday was not as good: Riccardo started from the eighth row, but withdrew during the initial stages of the race. This last weekend at Pau has been another difficult one, after the first point gained seven days before at Hockenheim. Now 3 weeks of rest will follow before the next appointment of the European series at the Hungaroring (May 30 - June 1), a track Riccardo is familiar with, where the last year he finished third an Auto GP race and where, in 2012, he scored a victory and a second position, which launched him towards the Italian title.
