The VLN Long-Distance-Championship starts into the season´s fourth round next weekend and Rent4Ring Racing will launch its brand-new BMW 428i. Since its introduction to the BMW range, the 4-Series has become the young dynamic within the model palette. The chassis is flatter than that of the old 3-Series. The new car is also wider, features a lower centre and is lighter, even though the BMW 4-Series is longer than its predecessor.
Fredy Lienhard and Ralph Beck were looking for a new challenge for the 2014 season. Both are great BMW Fans, and therefore it was only natural to choose the new race car from the Bavarian manufacturers. The Rent4Ring Racing 428i is the only BMW 4-Series in the entire VLN starting field and will compete against cars such as the Audi TTRS 2.0, the VW Scirocco and the Ford Focus ST.
´We are not thinking about a podium finish for our first race´, says Fredy Lienhard. ´The four-hours-race is a test and roll-out run for us to see that the car is running in good shape and also to get to know the car better. We will take part in the 24hrs race here at the Nürburgring and we will have four more weeks to make any changes or amendments to the car.´
The brand-new BMW 428i will start in the VLN Class SP3T, the class with modifications up to 2 liter cubic capacity and turbo charger. The car is fitted with a front splitter, a rear wing and diffusor. ´Zeus´ does not only look aggressive and quick, the cars looks with its aerodynamic downforce will show its potential on the track. In addition, the standard motorized BMW with 245 horsepower is equipped with KW Competition Suspensions and front and rear brakes by Brembo.
The Mazda MX-5 retired in the last VLN Race due to a technical failure, which has turned out to be more substantial as thought. ´The electrical failure is more serious and since we have put all our energy and resources into finishing the BMW 428i, the Mazda will not run in the fourth VLN race´, says Ralph Beck, who won the championship title in the MX-5 in 2013. The Mazda will race again in the fifth race as well as the BMW 125i, which is also not racing next weekend.
