ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was delighted with a podium finish in the first round of the CIK FIA European KF Championship.
Less than a year after taking the title at junior level, the step up this time round made little difference to proceedings.
So dominant was he in fact, that the 14-year-old felt disappointed not to have finished higher than third place.
And he believes he is in with a great shout of repeating the same feat as last season if he can keep up the speed and power he showed this weekend at La Conca.
He said: “My pace was better than third all weekend, so although it was great to finish third, I felt I could have been up there challenging if I had cut out a few little mistakes.
“It was a good start to the Championships so if I can improve in a few places, who knows what can happen in the other rounds.”
Lando qualified in a good time but was surprised to find it was good enough for pole, especially as he felt he had more to give.
Three of the heats followed a similar pattern: he started in pole, pulled away from the pack and managed to get a 3 second lead and a comfortable win.
The fourth heat also ended in a win but this time he got overtaken - although soon managed to get back into the lead and pull away.
Lando started the pre-final in pole and after going into the first corner quite hard, gave a few drivers the opportunity to squeeze past him.
But from fifth he got back to second, although didn’t quite have enough left to catch the leader.
It meant the Glastonbury racer began the final in second and after a good start was in third after the first corner.
But after taking another corner too wide he was pushed out further and left in sixth when others behind him got in front.
Lando managed to comfortably get back into third and was closing in on second but had too much to do in the end to claw back any more ground.
He added: “It was a bit frustrating knowing I could have done even better, just a couple of little mistakes in the pre-final and final made the difference. But it was a really good weekend and great to get another podium.
“We were really fast and the kart felt good. Hopefully things will be even better in the next round.”
