Oli Norris looks to get back to early season form
ADD Motorsports driver Oli Norris was left frustrated after a difficult weekend in the CIK FIA European KF Championship.
A crash in the pre-final put a stop to any chance he had of a good starting position for the final and a Top 10 finish.
But after coming back from 32nd to finish 20th in the pre-final, and to finish 14th after a few set backs in the final, he is determined to get back to the form he was showing at the start of the season which left him hoping to be fighting for podiums.
He said: “It was a difficult weekend, but we knew it would be. It was harder for the bigger guys out there as it was so grippy.
“Most of the people at the front were smaller – they found it a lot easier.
“It was disappointing, I had some momentum coming out of the last two heats, but then I had a crash and it put me last, so it was just one of those things you couldn’t do anything about.”
The Glastonbury racer qualified 30th overall after failing to put himself in the right positions.
He finished 14th from 12th in the first heat and a slight improvement saw him move up from 12th to 10th in the second.
Things were looking up after the second two heats when some changes to the kart really pushed Oli on and he finished 7th in both from 14th leaving him 19th overall.
The pre-final started in the worst possible way though, with Oli being hit from behind on the first corner. It forced him to hit the barriers, bent the kart and left him back in 32nd place.
However, Oli slowly, but surely made his way back up to finish a respectable 20th.
Oli had a good start in the final and made up some 10 places early on. But another nudge from behind soon meant he was back in 20th.
Oli managed to get back up to 14th by the end of the race.
He said: “It was pretty annoying as every little mistake put you back two laps. All the work that you put in to get yourself in a good position would be gone and then you’d spend that time again trying to get back to where you were before the mistake.
“Top 10 was definitely there for me this weekend, but it just didn’t go that way.
“It’s been a tough few weeks but I hope we can get back to where we were at the beginning of the season when we had the pace and were in the mix for podiums.
“Hopefully the next round will be a lot better.”
