Porsche Club at Snetterton
Racers in the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship will return to Snetterton over the weekend of 12/13 June for rounds six and seven of the championship. The second visit to Norfolk in a month precedes a six-week summer break in the championship schedule.Heading to Snetterton, four drivers are breaking clear at the head of the class one points' battle and another weekend of tremendous race action seems assured. To date, the racing at the head of the field has been superb and the Snetterton layout should promote another weekend of fierce dicing.Currently, just eight points clear at the head of class one is Peter Morris (968CS) after scoring his second victory of the season in the most recent race. Morris, in his first full season in the Club championship is racing superbly and has finished in the top four in all five races to date. However, Ian White (3.2 Carrera) has five podiums in his tally but, frustratingly, no race win yet. The Somerset hard-charger revels at Snetterton and will be going all out to stop the front-engined cars winning again. However, White's job is made even tougher by the pace of Chris Egginton in the other 968CS from Team GVR. Twice a winner this year, Egginton matched Morris wheel for wheel at Snetterton in May as they each took a win and a second place.John Williams (3.2 Carrera) won superbly in the rain at Croft and is the other member of the leading 'gang of four' at present. His experience and racecraft makes him a major player, although the 968s seem to just have the edge on speed at Snetterton.Other leading contenders in class one include Mark Lillington (968CS), Richard Harrison (3.2 Carrera) and impressive newcomer Marcus Holden (3.2 Carrera) and, most of all, Craig Rapp (3.2 Carrera) who is overdue some good fortune!Having played his points doubling joker at Croft in the opening race of the season, Richard Lambert (Carrera 3) continues to head class two as well as the overall title rankings. However, since the Croft weekend, Tom Segrue (944S2) and Rob Williams (Carrera) have taken the spoils after some superb battles. The fact that Williams took a double win at Snetterton last time out suggests that he will again be the man to beat. David Botterill (924 Carrera GT) and Mark Rogers (911SC) are other strong contenders in class two.Fraser Robertson (944) is currently setting a cracking pace in class three to lead the division, with four wins on the trot at Croft, Silverstone and both Snetterton races. The 911Es of David Fissenden and Chris Stewart are chasing the 944 while Chris Berry (911E) claimed a brace of seconds at Snetterton.
