Porsche Club racers F1 experience
Henry Firman and John Williams, from the Michelin Porsche Open and the Michelin Porsche Club Championship respectively, and their partners were guests of Michelin during Formula 1 tyre testing at Silverstone on Wednesday (2 June). The lucky recipients of the unique opportunity got their chance after their names were drawn from a hat during the recent double-header weekend at Snetterton."Michelin is a keen supporter of the two race series from the Porsche Club GB and as a company we were keen to give the guys something a little special," said Michelin's John Cheadle. "This gave them a chance to see how tyre technology works at the very top of the sport.""It was a really good day," reported Firman. "What was good was getting to see the teams and drivers at close quarters. The thing that really surprised me was that the same basic principles in F1 also apply to our racing. Things like tyre temperatures, car set-up and trying to get the best out of the car are all things that we are thinking about; albeit at a million miles away from F1 in terms of performance!"It was a good day out as well as a learning experience," continued Firman. "John Cheadle has already been very helpful at race meetings with technical tyre information, so we are really grateful for his support."Firman and Williams will now aim to use that experience to good effect when they resume their racing seasons at Snetterton on 12/13 June.
