Excellent weekend for Buggy Experience in Barcelona

Buggy Experience Racing Team left the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya having a shining performance in the second round of the Spanish GT Championship and the Michelin Endurance Series and, in addition, hosting the season opener for the Spanish Endurance Championship. Despite this time Javier Ibrán embarked on a solo racing event at the wheel of the Ginetta G55 GT4, Valencia-born driver performed extremely well and just small misfortune prevented from achieving even better results.

Ibrán took part in free practice sessions on Saturday to adapt himself to the particularities of the Catalan track and set-up properly the British GT car. In the early hours of Sunday, Buggy Experience Racing Team participated in the qualifying session and there Ibrán clocked a lap time of 2:00.730, 3rd fastest among GT4 cars and to start on the 8th row of the grid. Later, in the race, Ibrán moved up several spots and, by the halfway point, he was leading his class and was in top-5. Shortly after his pit-stop, another car hit Ibrán and it caused an excessive tire wear and a worsening of lap times. As a result, Ibrán was not able to keep his lead but at least Buggy Experience Racing Team clinched two second places in the Spanish GT Championship and Michelin Endurance Series and was third in CER.

“We made an excellent weekend. Our pit strategy was great and we were dominating the race for the second half as planned. We were first in class, but out of the blue our lap times got much worse. I thought it was a tire wear problem, but in fact my rear left back tire was moved in a little event with another car and an additional pit stop left us without options for the podium. It was almost a miracle to finish. This would have been a well-deserved win for the team, but they have done a great job”, Ibrán commented, now already targeting his next meeting in Alcañiz.
