Morris Aims To Get Title Bid On Track On Home Ground At Silverstone

Caterham Racing Academy driver Seb Morris makes a welcome return to UK soil this coming weekend, 24th/25th May, for the second event of the 2014 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire.Determined to claim the first podium of his maiden season in the ultra-competitive NEC series, the 18-year-old from Marford – who goes into rounds three and four of the campaign ninth in the title race after a challenging first weekend at Monza in Italy – is confident of a strong outing.Having been a double podium finisher at the home of the British Grand Prix in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship last year, the TAG Heuer ambassador and Jack Wills ‘Young Briton’ certainly knows what it takes to conquer the 3.66-mile track.“I want to get solid points at the weekend, then get the momentum rolling in the championship and build from there”, said the Fortec Motorsport driver, “We need to walk before we can run but the podium would be very nice and a win would be fantastic. We’re aiming for a strong weekend.”Although a problematic qualifying run at Monza prevented Seb from posting the sort of results he was expecting, especially after topping the times in testing, the Elite Cymru racer served up two sublime drives through the order to ensure the best possible points haul in the circumstances. While contact on the first lap of race one left Seb at the back of the 32-car field, and with a broken front wing to boot, he produced a sensational performance to gain just shy of 20 positions on his way to 15th place. In round two, he again carved his way through the order from 17th to seventh but the Welshman aims to have a much more straightforward race weekend a few days from now.“We’ve had some good testing since Monza and managed to test at Silverstone too, so that’s been good preparation, but we need to get the most out of the new tyres in qualifying, unlike at Monza”, he added, “My experience of Silverstone will help in the races, I’ve been involved in some good battles with a lot of overtaking there in the past so I know what can and can’t be done.”During the build-up to next weekend’s racing, Seb is to be the subject of a special television feature which will be screened on S4C Wales tomorrow, Tuesday, 20th May. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 21.30.Following practice and qualifying at Silverstone on Friday, 23rd May, round three of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC season will get underway at 14.40 on Saturday, 24th May, with round four scheduled to begin at 10.20 on Sunday, 25th May.
