Higgins has one aim in Scotland

Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship leader David Higgins is brimming confidence ahead of the Scottish International Rally on 11th/12th June 2004. Keen to improve on his best result on the event of third overall twice in previous years. Higgins will be gunning for the ultimate goal over the next two days."My best result was third in a Production class car, having won the class four times on the rally. So I will be aiming for the top half of the top two places in the overall standing. It would be nice to win in Scotland."At the wheel of the SGP Hyundai Accent World Rally Car, with Craig Thorley alongside, the Pirelli International winners feels as long as there is no repeat of the Rally of Wales time delays with the dust, he will be maintaining his championship lead come Saturday evening."The dust was a major problem for everyone in Wales and with evening stages in Scotland, if the stages are dry the dust may well be a problem again. I just hope my car starts while waiting in controls to start the stages. In America the evening and night stages would have dust lingering in the air longer than through the day, but the organisers would provide a three or four minute gap between cars, so the stages were very safe."Despite the dust in Wales, Higgins took the lead and was unfortunate to lose out to punctures on the final day, dropping him to third. Since crossing the finish ramp on round two, the Mid Wales driver has kept himself busy, contesting a South Wales event in a Harry Hockley prepared Proton and also heading out to China to compete in a Ralliart KRS Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. The Chinese excursion rewarding David and Daniel Barritt with their first win in the Far East on the Rally Beijing."The whole event was very well organised with a Superspecial after each service, two minute gaps between cars, central servicing. The event would not look out of place on the World Rally Championship."The third round of the Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship will commence from the centre of Dumfries on Friday evening for the first three opening stages with the main mileage in Ae forest. After the overnight halt, an early morning re-start on Saturday will give competitors a full day of rallying in the tough and demanding Galloway forests before returning to Dumfries for the finish. David & Craig are supported in their BRC campaign by Pirelli, Truck Care, Vodka Kick, Barretts, Forest Experience Rally School, Barrier Surveillance, Motorsport Travel and Castrol.
