The blazing hot weather was matched by equally hot racing when 2.0 Hot Rods, Superstox, Rookie Bangers and Ministox took to the track at Bovingdon on June 6th.
The 2.0 Hot Rods provided a great day's racing, which was marred somewhat by extensive contact between the cars during the final. 60, Mark Paffey kept well clear of the trouble and was awarded the win after first under the flag 95, Mick Pagden was docked a place for contact during the very rapid race.
The hard charging Superstox were also in action, and the bumpers were put to very good use all day. Heat 1 saw several big clashes, with ex World Champion 18, Mark Eaton becoming an early casualty. 376, Steve Jackson took the opening heat with Heat 2 going to 710, Kevin Mallett and the final to 60, Ben Marjoram.
More metal bending mayhem was provided by the Rookie Bangers. Almost 60 of the stripped out wrecks were on hand to treat the crowd to a series of spinouts, crashes and rollovers over the course of the day. Heat 1 went to 136, Mark Latter, Heat 2 to 135 Kev Payne. The final was won by 34, Barry Williams. The demolition derby went to 165 Darren Davies, who battered 34, Williams to a halt.
The Ministox will rounded off another great value for money day's racing as their young (11-16 year old) pilots pushed their mini sized cars to the max in Round 3 of the King Ed Series track championship. Plenty of contact and very close racing ensured that fans of these little cars went home smiling. Heat wins went to 126, Sam Wartley and 143, Drew Lammas. The final was won in fine style by 132, Daniel Wenn.
There will be more racing action at Bovingdon on June 20 with the Rookie Bangers, Stock Cars, Stock Rods, and V8 Stock Cars.
