Oulton Park in Cheshire, one of the biggest events on the schedule, is the next destination for Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing (7/8 June) for rounds 10, 11 and 12 in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.Once again, Andrew will arrive at the race weekend with his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic carrying the maximum 45kg of success ballast as the championship leader and he says that the three-dimensional nature of the spectacular parkland track will make the extra weight even more of a handicap than usual. However, in front of what is traditionally one of the biggest crowds of the season, he is determined to maintain his lead in the overall championship battle as the action resumes after a four-week spring break. After the opening nine races over three weekends, Andrew and Pirtek Racing have a slender eight-point lead over Gordon Shedden, with a further 10 points to Colin Turkington before a small gap to Matt Neal and Jason Plato. Both Neal and Plato will be fighting to get back into contention after tough weekends last time out at Thruxton. As the only driver to have won three times so far this season, Andrew knows that he faces an uphill battle at Oulton Park.“I love racing at Oulton but I think we’ll struggle a bit because we’ve got 45kg going into the weekend at the most weight-dependent circuit there is,” he said. “I’ve got to keep my head down and do the best job I can and see where we get to. We have to be very savvy how we approach these weekends.”
Andrew says that the all-important qualifying is going to be tough as the Honda pulls the extra weight up the hills of Oulton Park. “If we qualify in the top six at Oulton I’ll be very surprised,” he said. “If that’s the case, we need to tackle it like we did at Donington and get through it with as many points as we can.” Heading into the race weekend, just 35 points cover the top five drivers. After qualifying on Saturday 7 June at 15.20, the first of three BTCC races will be at 12.15 on Sunday, with race two at 14.30 and race three at 17.00. All three races will be broadcast live on ITV4. Qualifying will be broadcast live at www.itv.com and live results from the weekend will be available at www.tsl-timing.com
