Jerez a forgettable race for Piccini
The Jerez track hosted the third round of the Spanish Formula 3 championship this weekend and the Minardi F3 team’s driver Giacomo Piccini had a race he wished he could forget about.
After a good start in Race 1, where Giacomo was battling for the first 5 positions, the engine broke down unexpectedly. The reason for this break down is still unknown but one thing’s for sure; this ruined all of the Tuscan’s dreams of glory.
The engine’s breakdown not only characterized Race 1 but influenced Race 2 as well. In fact, Giacomo did not participate in Race 2 because the car wasn’t in the condition to compete well.
After a positive round in Jarama, Jerez is a big disappointment for Piccini who can only look forward to the next race in Estoril to seek redemption.
Giacomo Piccini
“There really isn’t much I could say. I battled with my team-mate Hernandez for quite a while but the engine crashed and all the damage done prevented me for participating in Race 2. I’m very disappointed because I was hoping to be fast seeing the progress we had made in Jarama but things didn’t go that way.
During the 1st qualification, I did well considering the fact that we revolutionized the car to find the best set up. However during the 2nd qualifications, the engine wasn’t that powerful and so I couldn’t fight for the front line positions.
There’s still a lot of work to be done to be competitive but I’m not afraid to work hard to reach the top.”
