The American Racing Club (ARC) and Radical Sportscars West have announced the formation of the 2004 ARC Radical West Cup, set to take place at the 4 remaining ARC events within California this year.
ARC co-founders Troy Allison and Dave Mills, both Radical owners and Radical racers, have been working for months with Radical West owner John Morris to design a series dedicated for Radical owners and drivers.
Allison noted: “Since I first bought my Radical SR3, the best racing I have found has been against other Radical racers. As the ranks of Radicals have continued to grow within the ARC, it only made sense to form an official partnership with John Morris of Radical West to launch a Western U.S. Radical series.”
Based in Southern California, Morris sees the union between the ARC and Radical West as the perfect opportunity to unite Radical owners and drivers on some of the most challenging tracks in the country: “The popularity of Radical Sportscars has just exploded on the West Coast since I opened my dealership; until now, our customers and other Radical racers throughout the West haven’t had a racing organization or home to call their own. We also haven’t had a series where Radical racers can come out, compete for a championship, and test their skills against other Radical drivers. With the ARC Radical West Cup, every Radical now has a home and a championship.”
The 2004 ARC Radical West Cup will be comprised of 10 races at 3 different tracks, plus a season ending Enduro at Thunderhill Raceway in December. The ARC’s unique racing format provides 2 races per day at every event, and the ARC Radical West Cup will run within the existing ARC Formula/Sportscar run-group for 2004.
The 2004 series will race at: • Infineon Raceway, June 20th -- 2 races • Thunderhill Raceway, August 7th – 2 races • Reno-Fernley Raceway, Oct 8-10 – 4 races • Thunderhill Raceway, Dec 11-12 – 2 races
The goal for the series is to promote enough growth to allow a dedicated run-group for Radicals only in 2005. For this, Morris noted: “Even as we have been working quietly behind the scenes with the ARC, in the past month I have received numerous inquiries from owners and drivers throughout the U.S. and Europe about joining the series. Between the legion of Radical owners in the West and interest from drivers throughout the world that want to race Radicals in California, the ARC Radical West Cup is set for an incredible season.”
In addition to the cash prizes given to the top 3 finishers of the 2004 ARC Radical West Cup series, the championship winning driver will also get a generously offered “Radical Drive in Europe” from Radical Sportscars
