British teams in Donington Eurocup

Manor Motorsport, Fortec Motorsport and Team aka will each field cars in the latest round of the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup at Donington Park, Leicestershire, on Saturday as the LG Super Racing Weekend makes its annual visit to the UK.

Paul Di Resta (Bathgate, West Lothian), Josh Weber (Tiverton, Devon) and Patrick Hogan (Whitfield, Northamptonshire) will compete for Sheffield-based Manor Motorsport while James Jakes (Cullingworth, West Yorkshire) will once again take part in the Eurocup with Team aka.

Meanwhile, Daventry’s Fortec Motorsport – the current leader of the Formula Renault UK Entrant’s Championship – will field three cars for Charles Hollings (Norwood, West Yorkshire), Stuart Hall (Halstead, Essex) and Formula Renault UK Championship pace-setter Mike Conway (Sevenoaks, Kent).

With seven cars on the grid at the weekend coming from the Formula Renault UK Championship, there’s a lot of British interest in the Eurocup but the domestic teams fully realise it’ll be a difficult task to challenge the category front-runners and, in particular, championship leader Scott Speed.

Manor’s Tony Shaw said: “We’re really looking forward to the weekend. It’s nice to have the opportunity to race during the break in the Formula Renault UK Championship and it’s also good for us to compete alongside the European teams and drivers. We always enjoy the Eurocup events and we’re confident that Paul, Josh and Paddy will go well against the championship regulars.”

Fortec’s Paul Jackson added: “It’ll be interesting to see how we go compared to the Europeans as they’re used to using different brake pads. A benefit for us, however, is the practice session only lasts for one hour so our experience of the circuit will hopefully help us.

“Scott Speed has raced in Formula 3 in this country though so we fully expect him to be very quick. All the boys in the team are looking forward to taking part and we’re interested to see if we can get the best from the track now it’s been resurfaced.”

The Formula Renault V6 Eurocup also forms part of the LG SRW at Donington with former Formula Renault UK drivers Ryan Sharp, Robert Bell and Robbie Kerr all expecting some impressive results at their home event – the ‘Grand Race’ being held on Saturday and the ‘Sprint Race’ on Sunday.
