5 Carrera Cup racers join Supercup

Five drivers from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB will join the grid for the Porsche Michelin Supercup race supporting the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday, 11 July. The five drivers are Jason Templeman and Marcus Thomas (Team VLR) and the Team Parker Racing trio of Chris Cooper, Martin Rich and Mark Hazell. The annual opportunity to be part of the biggest weekend in British motorsport will give the five drivers the chance to race in front of a crowd of up to 100,000 fans on the morning of the Grand Prix day."It is a big deal doing this race," says Templeman, who currently lies third in the Carrera Cup GB standings. "Even coming in the top 10 would be good. It will be really tough, but you never know what can happen. There will definitely be a big buzz about racing in front of the Grand Prix crowd. Hopefully the crowd will get behind the British drivers in the Supercup!"Cooper, meanwhile, will spearhead the three-car squad from Team Parker Racing. "My aspiration is a top-ten finish," he admits. "It will be hugely exciting racing on Sunday morning in front of 100,000 fans just before the F1 drivers! For any national racer, it has to be one of the biggest things you can do."Hazell has previous Supercup experience, having contested the series in 2001. After a year out of racing in 2003, he returned to the Carrera Cup GB this season. Rich and Thomas, meanwhile, are both in their first season of Porsche racing and for Northampton-based Thomas it will be his local race meeting!
