David Higgins Jim Clark preview

David Higgins is looking forward to getting back on tarmac for the fourth round of the Kwik-Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship. The Jim Clark Memorial Rally gets underway  from Kelso on Friday 2nd July, with 22 special timed tests on closed public roads. The tough and demanding 160 miles of competition will be the first time the championship leader will have contested on a sealed surface rally in two years. The Trefeglwys rally driver will again drive the SGP Motorsport prepared Hyundai Accent World Rally Car. Partnering the Mid Wales man will be the co-driver who sat with David when the pair won the Sports Car Club of America Pro Rally Championship, Daniel Barritt. The pair have also experienced winning ways this year, taking victory on the Rally Beijing in China. This will certainly give the partnership plenty of encouragement ahead of the Berwickshire based rally."I'm really looking forward to doing the Jim Clark Rally, it will be my first tarmac rally since the Manx Rally 2002. It will also be the first time I have rallied a WRC car on a tarmac event. I'm not too sure what the car will be like on tarmac as the Hyundai World Rally Team never did much work with the car on asphalt, although I am confident the SGP team will give me the best car possible, their preparation is absolutely first class." Commenting on the renewed partnership, Higgins added,"It will also be great to have Daniel back in the car with me, we won in China back in April and we work so well together having spent so much time in the States doing the SCCA Pro Rally series."

While the Jim Clark is a round of the BRC, it is also a qualifying round of the Irish tarmac series and David relishes the opportunity to see how he fairs against the tarmac experts."It will be great to have the Irish boys to compare times against, but we must focus on our British Rally Championship campaign and not get involved too much in a fight with these guys. We just want to be sure we are among the front runners in the BRC, you don't have to beat the Irish guys if their not in our series. It would be nice to challenge but not at the risk of anything."Higgins is also aware that the rally can be lost through climate conditions.

"I am sure the weather will play a major part in the rally, with tyre choice and changing conditions in the weather. This is why we have drafted in one of our Rally Scholarship guys to do gravel notes for us. Robbie Dale lives fairly close to the event and made sense to use him. While it will be good for us it will hopefully be something that he can learn from."David & Daniel are supported in their BRC campaign by Pirelli, Truck Care, Vodka Kick, Barretts, Alpinestars, Forest Experience Rally School, Barrier Surveillance, Motorsport Travel and Castrol.
