Vettel dominates at the Norisring

16-year-old Sebastian Vettel (ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg) appears to be in full control of this year’s Formula BMW ADAC Championship. After winning on Saturday from Brazilian Atila Abreu (ADAC Mittelrhein) and New Zealander Chris Van der Drift (Team Rosberg), the youngster did the double on Sunday at the Norisring. Again, Abreu and Van der Drift joined him on the podium. Vettel is leading the Championship after ten rounds with 187 points followed by Abreu with 141 points and Dominik Jackson (Team Rosberg) with 89 points.  “Sebastian got very close to the wall with three laps left to go, my pulse was racing like crazy,” said Vettel’s sister Stephanie. The youngest family member rewarded his mother and father, Heike and Norbert and older brother Fabian by taking his eighth win of the season with a stunning performance around the tight street circuit. “I’ve taken my first quartet - four wins in two race weekends,” said a very happy Vettel. “Vettel has not only proved how talented he is, but also that he’s a very mature racing driver,” said BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen.

“I’m happy with my results this weekend,“ explained Abreu, “I was able to take all important points in the Championship.” Van der Drift was also happy with his performance over the weekend, ”On Sunday, I had a problem with tyre pressures, I didn’t have a lot of grip which makes the podium all the sweeter.” The Formula newcomer has now overtaken Sebastien Buemi (Lars Kaufmann Racing) in the Rookie standings. Van der Drift is now leading with 160 points with Buemi in second position on 143 points and Onidi with 83 points.

Black clouds hang over Buemi’s weekend in Nürnberg, who was disqualified after Saturday’s race, due to a technical infringement. On Sunday he was forced to pit after a collision with Abreu. His cousin Natacha Gachnang (AM-Holzer Rennsport) wasn’t any luckier suffering a technical problem in both qualifying sessions that forced her to start from the last position on the grid for both races. On Saturday she finished in 14th position and on Sunday in 13th position.
