American Le Mans Series standouts Darren Law of Phoenix, Johannes van Overbeek of San Francisco and the entire Flying Lizard Motorsports squad took top honors in the GT category of this weekend's ALMS at Mid-Ohio endurance event. Law and van Overbeek piloted the team's #45 Michelin shod ShoreTel/ eSilicone/Brocade Porsche GT3 RSR to a commanding 35.578- second win over the Alex Job Porsche of works drivers Timo Bernhard and Jorg Bergmeister.
Law was ecstatic with the win, and was quick to credit the work of the Flying Lizard team.
"It feels really good to take this win," said Law. "We knew we had a solid race car the whole weekend, and with all the testing we have been doing we were pretty quick right off the trailer. I'm also proud that we were able to win a race like this in only the second ALMS event for this team. There are some really competitive teams in GT, and the competition makes this win all the more enjoyable."
Law qualified the Flying Lizard car 4th for the start of the timed 2 hour 45 minute endurance contest, which was held amidst beautiful conditions in Lexington, Ohio. After a patient start which saw Law drop to 5th he steadily worked his way to 2nd place before turning the car over to co-driver van Overbeek.
Said Law in pit lane following his stint, "The car is handling great, and I've got to thank the crew guys for getting the stop done so quick. I think we probably gained a position here in the pits. I followed David (Murray ) for a bunch of laps, and I think the lack of airflow to front of the car made the brake pedal go a bit soft. The car still stops well though, and I'm sure Johannes (van Overbeek) will figure it out. He's been hustling the car well all weekend."
Law, van Overbeek, and the entire Flying Lizard team won't be spending too much time celebrating their Mid-Ohio GT victory though, as they will pack up and head to Lime Rock Park for the American Le Mans Series New England Grand Prix to be held the weekend of July 2nd through the 5th.
