Sets sights on victory at Silverstone and Spa
Zytek has announced that it will not be running its 04S sports car at the Nurburgring 1000km endurance race this weekend (3 to 5 July). Delays in negotiations with sponsors are behind the decision to pull out of the German event, which will allow the team to concentrate on achieving strong results at the remaining two events in the 2004 Le Mans Endurance Series calendar.
"Obviously we are disappointed not to be racing this weekend," says Zytek team boss Trevor Foster, "We know the car would be extremely competitive on this kind of circuit and our performance at Le Mans proved we have the ability to compete with the best over this distance. But it is still our overall aim to build and race the fastest cars in endurance racing, and sometimes you need to make difficult decisions like this in order to be stronger over the long term."
The Zytek team is continuing to refine the UK-designed and built 04S - which started third on the grid and challenged the leaders until the half-way stage at the Le Mans 24 hour race last month - and is redoubling its efforts to ensure that sponsorship is in place in time for the Silverstone LMES event in August.
