Leading Vauxhall and Proton rally trade specialist Motorsport Direct began life under a new name yesterday. The Barnoldswick based company will now be known across the UK and the all important expanding European market as ‘EuroRallye’, after selling its website domain name to a leading motor racing company.
Sports giant Motorsport Vision Ltd, owned by former Formula One racer Dr. Jonathon Palmer, has taken over the motorsportdirect.co.uk domain name for its online ticket sales, prompting Motorsport Direct proprietor Iain Shirlaw to rebrand his successful trade parts company.
Palmer said: "The Motorsport Direct domain name compliments our existing website for all the MotorSport Vision Ltd circuits. We will be using the Motorsport Direct site for our online ticket sales.”
Motorsport Vision Ltd currently own a number of the leading racing circuits in the UK, including Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, and Snetterton to name but a few.
Shirlaw was pleased to see the company name transferred to such a reputable name in motorsport, and was looking forward to a new start with the new EuroRallye trading name:
"I am happy to see the domain name go to such a reputable company in the motorsport world and I wish Jonathon and his team every success with their online ticket sales site. I will use the opportunity to rebrand my own business by choosing a name to reflect our increased interest in the European market".
Shirlaw decided on EuroRallye to reflect increased business generated across mainland Europe. Stocking a wide range of competition parts for Vauxhall Corsas and Novas, along with the increasingly popular Proton Satria model, EuroRallye looks to follow in the footsteps of its successful former identity.
In addition to the rebranding of the company name, the Motorsport Direct Cup, running within the Kumho Clubman Rally Championship in the UK, will also reflect the change of name as it will now be known as the EuroRallye Cup for the remainder of the 2004 season and beyond. The series, open to 1400cc and 1600cc Novas and Corsas has enjoyed a strong start to the season with a number of talented drivers taking part and pushing hard in the overall rankings of the Kumho series in the process.
