JWR denied Nurburgring podium

Jordan Warnock Racing was denied a podium finish in the Le Mans Endurance Series race at the Nurburgring (3 July) after a mighty performance by Mike Jordan and Robin Liddell in the team's Porsche 911GT3RSR.Constantly changing weather conditions made the 1000km race incredibly tough, but inspired tyre calls from the team management set the John Guest car up for a podium position in LM GT when, with less than an hour to run, a damaged radiator put the car out.The race didn't start well for the team when Liddell spun into the gravel on the opening lap of the race. The car lost three laps before it could rejoin the race and so Liddell and Jordan then set about recovering lost time. Towards the end of Liddell's first stint it rained heavily, but David Warnock, managing team strategy on the pit wall, called for intermediate tyres at the first pit stop. Initially, Jordan rejoined the race to find the track flooded in places, but within a couple of laps knew that intermediates had been an inspired call. "It was the best call possible, we were soon running four seconds a lap quicker than anyone else in the class!" In the space of his stint, Jordan took the car all the way back up to fourth place. "During my stint it showered, then dried, then showered again. Other teams were in and out of the pits, but we just stayed out on the intermediates."After a strong second stint from Liddell, Jordan returned to the race now on slicks, but heavy rain soon started falling. "We were all struggling and aquaplaning," said Jordan. "Nearly everyone was going off at the first corner." Seeing one of the Audi R8s coming in his mirrors, Jordan made room for Rinaldo Capello into the first corner. "I could see the Audi twitching in my mirrors and I tried to get as far out of his way as I could. But I was aquaplaning and the car went sideways on the standing water. As the Audi went past me, its left rear hit the nose of my car and damaged the radiator."With only 40 minutes to go, there was not enough time to get the car running again. However, had they finished, Jordan and Liddell would have finished second in LM GT. Nevertheless, Jordan was delighted with the team's LMES debut. "From a team point of view it was a fantastic performance. David Warnock was outstanding calling strategy from the pit wall and the guys in the pit did a great job on the car. It was a very encouraging weekend – we should have been on the podium!"The next LMES race is at Silverstone on 14 August
