The French Grand Prix saw Renault F1 Team score its best result of the year with Fernando Alonso back on the podium in second place and Jarno Trulli finishing the race in fourth position. The Team picked up 13 points overall which means it has strengthened its second place position in the Constructors' Championship even further with this result taking the Team a full 17 points clear ahead of BAR-Honda in third.
Fernando Alonso was on pole position following a spectacular and very quick drive in Qualifying to lead the race for 32 laps however the four stop strategy employed by Ferrari enabled Schumacher to take the lead and win, but Renault F1 Team was certainly the only team to give Ferrari a challenge. Alonso walked away in a triumphant mood, happy with his second place podium finish which is the Team's fourth podium finish of the season.
Fellow driver Jarno Trulli was involved in a thrilling battle for third place with Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. Jarno looked set to join Fernando on the podium but was absolutely gutted both for himself and the Team to lose third place on the last lap. The race had been going to plan for Jarno up until the last stint when the car had less traction and was oversteering an awful lot which led to position being snatched away from him by Barrichello at the last corner, to finish the race in fourth place.
However both cars performed well and were competitive giving the Team plenty to be optimistic about for the rest of the season.
