WALES RALLY GB REGULATIONS LAUNCHED - INCLUDING NEW NATIONS CUP
Wales Rally GB 16 - 19 September 2004
The Regulations for the 2004 Wales Rally GB have been released and include details of a brand new Nations Cup competition, which is set to add further excitement to this year’s event.
“Whilst there are no big name British drivers in the World Rally Championship, we wanted to recognise the home grown talent in this year’s event” confirmed Andrew Coe, Chief Executive, Rally GB Limited. “We have some fantastic rallying talent in the British Isles and we think there’s a real chance for some of this to shine out at Wales Rally GB, without being in the shadow of the usual bigger British names.”
The Nations Cup will be contested between teams representing England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, with each team comprising three cars. The driver of each car must be a national by birth or have permanent residence in the country they represent.
The winner of the Wales Rally GB Nations Cup will be the team that has the lowest combined total of the final overall positions for each team member added together. Any team members who do not finish will be deemed to have finished last and therefore have the highest number of points attributed to their Team score.Closing date for entries to Wales Rally GB is 11th August 2004, but privateer entrants need to move quickly to qualify for the first 30 guaranteed places on this year’s event. Since the entry forms were posted on walesrallygb.com at the end of June, a number of privateer entries have already been received.
“Wales Rally GB will provide a fantastic setting for this exciting new Nations Cup competition this year” confirmed Andrew Coe. “We already know the team from the Irish Republic is gearing up for the event, with the top three entrants from their own National competition automatically qualifying for Wales Rally GB. We hope that the other countries take to the challenge with the same enthusiasm.”
Wales Rally GB event regulations and entry details are published on walesrallygb.com.
