Rupert Martin joins Team Parker for Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Team Parker Racing has announced that Rupert Martin will compete with the team in the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB.Dorset racer Martin will therefore return the distinctive yellow livery of lighting company Dextra Group plc to the Carrera Cup, four years after his son Alex competed with Team Parker Racing.Martin Sr will compete in the Pro Am 2 class for gentleman drivers, and will be guided as usual by former Carrera Cup champion and Team Parker Racing engineer/coach Barry Horne. The Martins have spent the past three seasons racing in the Ferrari Challenge, firstly with FF Corse and then AF Corse. But they are both switching to the hugely popular TOCA package that is shown live on ITV4, with Alex competing in the headlining British Touring Car Championship.“We had some great years racing in the Ferrari Challenge at some superb tracks,” said Rupert Martin. “But now it’s time to move on. Alex has always wanted to do the BTCC and I have always wanted to do the Carrera Cup, and the only logical choice was to do it with Team Parker Racing. I’m really looking forward to racing against some of my friends who I competed with in the GT Cup. Also, we’re used to racing drivers following in their fathers’ footsteps, so it’s nice for a father to follow in his son’s footsteps for a change!”Martin will begin testing his Carrera Cup car – the mandatory 991-type 911 GT3 Cup – as soon as possible in the new year. The series kicks off at Brands Hatch on 4th/5th April and supports seven BTCC rounds, as well as the Spa round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Belgium in May.
