Le Mans racing comes to Silverstone

The festival spirit of Le Mans rolls into Silverstone on Friday 13th to Sunday 15th August, when the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) will be making it’s only UK appearance of 2004 at the home of British Motor Racing.

The six hour, 1000km endurance race will run through Saturday afternoon and into the evening (14:00 – 20:00hrs), providing a festival of motorsport that’s not to be missed.   While  the  endurance  race  will  be  the  highlight  of  the  weekend,  fans  can  expect  a  feast  of  high octane  entertainment  over  an  action  packed  three  days.  In  addition  to  the  LMES,  the  hugely popular British GT and F3 championships will provide high-speed thrills on the world famous Grand Prix circuit.

Fans will be particularly keen to keep an eye on the F3 series which has often been the proving ground for a number of F1 drivers, including the legendary Ayrton Senna and British hero Jenson Button.

The festival atmosphere kicks off on the Friday evening when Silverstone will create a truly unique experience   for   fans   by   providing  them  with  the  opportunity  to  camp  in  the  centre  of  the Northamptonshire based circuit during the race weekend. Additional entertainment and a licensed bar will also help to recreate the mood of Le Mans. No other race weekend at Silverstone in the 2004  calendar  offers  camping  on  the  inside  of  the  circuit,  so  pre-booking  is  advised  to  avoid disappointment. The  on-track  action  will  continue  throughout  the  weekend,  and  race-goers  will  also  enjoy  free access to the paddock and centre of the circuit, giving them the opportunity to rub shoulders with a number of famous names from the world of motorsport, including former British Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert and Allan McNish.

In addition to the Le Mans Endurance Race and the British F3-GT championships, fans will also be treated  to  some  fantastic  wheel-to-wheel  racing  in  the  fiercely  contested  Classic  Endurance, Formula Palmer Audi and Formula Ford support races. Andrew  Waller,  Managing  Director  of  Silverstone  Motorsport  commented:

“Following  a  fantastic British Grand Prix, Silverstone is at its best and we’re now looking forward to welcoming the Le Mans Endurance Series to the Home of British Motor Racing.  There’s a special atmosphere about the place at the moment and the mixture of the Le Mans endurance race, the F3-GT Championship and  overnight  camping  in  the  centre  of  the  circuit  will  provide  another  memorable  weekend  for everyone involved”.
