Porsche Club Season Resumes

After a six-week summer break, the 2004 Michelin Porsche Club Championship starts the second half of its season at Oulton Park on 31 July. Round eight of the championship is the only visit to the Cheshire track this year for the Porsche Club racers and for many of the drivers the race on the Island circuit will be a new experience.Four drivers have broken clear at the head of the class one points' battle and it is the Team GVR squad that is starting to take control of the series. Just one point currently separates Chris Egginton from team mate Peter Morris in the pair of 968CSs and they will surely be at the front of the action at Oulton. However, the rear-engined pack is fighting hard and Ian White (3.2 Carrera) has six podiums from seven races in his tally but, frustratingly, no race win yet. He will be very determined to turn the tables on the front-engined cars and Oulton might just be the type of circuit to stop the winning sequence from the 968s.To date, John Williams (3.2 Carrera) is the only driver other than Morris and Egginton to take the chequered flag this season after winning superbly in the rain at Croft back in April. Other leading contenders in class one include Richard Harrison (3.2 Carrera), newcomer Marcus Holden (3.2 Carrera) and former champion Craig Rapp (3.2 Carrera).Having played his points doubling joker at Croft in the opening race of the season, Richard Lambert (Carrera 3) continues to head class two as well as the overall title rankings. Since Croft, Tom Segrue (944S2) and Rob Williams (Carrera) have given Lambert plenty to think about, but Lambert stormed back with a double win last time out at Snetterton to underline his status as class two pacesetter.Others to watch in a bumper class two field include David Botterill (924 Carrera GT), Mark Rogers (911SC) and local racers Adam Egar (Wilmslow) and Lee Birkett (Macclesfield).Fraser Robertson (944) is proving almost unstoppable in class three, with six wins on the trot. Only a tangle with the tyre wall in the season opener at Croft has come between him and a 100% winning record. Chris Stewart (911E) and series newcomer James Clare (Nether Alderley) are Robertson's class rivals.
