Shelley joins Carrera Cup GB
Andrew Shelley ended an 18-month break from racing to join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. The Yorkshireman raced at Croft over the weekend (24/25 July) and now plans to also race at Brands Hatch in August and at Donington Park in September.Shelley, who only started racing in 2000, was a front-runner in the Porsche Cup in 2002, finishing sixth in the championship. However, since then business commitments have kept him out of racing. “I’ve deliberately kept away from racing, but I was invited to the Monaco GP and at that point I was a lost cause,” joked Shelley. He has rejoined Red Line Racing for his racing return.“The cars are transformed from 2002,” reckons Shelley. “I’m just playing myself back in gently at the moment. Then I’ll take a view about next year once we’ve done the three weekends this season. I’m very pleased to be back with Red Line; it’s a great team to be with.”Prior to Croft, Shelley had one test day and has worked with team mate, and title contender, Richard Westbrook ready for his racing return. In the opening race at Croft Shelley worked through to finish ninth and then moved up to claim eighth place in the second race of the weekend. “It’s been fantastic,” said Shelley after the second race at Croft. “The standard at the front of the field is very high and I’ve got a lot to learn from them,” he added.
