Motorbase team celebrates podiums

The Motorbase Performance team is celebrating a double podium in round 12 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft on Sunday (25 July). Damien Faulkner and Andy Britnell finished second and third to give the new team its first podium finishes in the championship.Created over the winter by former racer David Bartrum, Motorbase Performance is entering cars for Andy and Gary Britnell in the colours of SAS International. A third car was added at Mondello for Irish ace Damien Faulkner and the squad will now be three strong for the balance of the season.Despite a troubled weekend at Mondello, Faulkner was immediately on the pace of title contenders Tim Harvey and Richard Westbrook, although clutch problems put him out of the opening race at Croft. However, it all came together in the second race when Faulkner charged from the tail of the grid to finish second."The guys have worked very hard on the car and it's very encouraging," said Faulkner after the team's first podium finishes. With Andy Britnell chasing Faulkner home to take third, the result represented a major breakthrough for the team. "Full marks to David and all the team," said a jubilant Britnell after his best Carrera Cup result to date. While Faulkner is determined to win races over the closing weekends of the season, Britnell has now consolidated sixth place in the championship points and is firmly in contention for third place in the final standings. Despite not finishing the second race at Croft, Gary Britnell lies ninth in the points' table. The weekend's results have also moved the team up to fourth in the team championship standings, just three points behind Team VLR.
