The only Spanish driver in the GP2 Series performed pretty well, passing several cars, during Saturday Feature race in Bahrain. Later a problem with fire extinguisher, experiencing extremely poor visibility, and tire wear played a key role to fall outside of the top-ten. Sergio Canamasas has delivered a nice driving today at the wheel of the Dallara GP2/11 entered by MP Motorsport. Despite his result wasn´t particularly good, the driver born in Barcelona was an eye-catcher during today´s race in Bahrain. Starting 17th on the grid, still proving he needs some more time with his new team, Canamasas completed a sensational opening lap, overtaking several cars on soft tires. After three laps, safety car was deployed and Canamasas headed into the pit-lane for his mandatory pit stop, switching to mediums. With green flags waving, MP Motorsport has managed to pass Marlon Stockinger, Zoel Amberg, René Binder, Jordan King and Richie Stanaway. When the Spaniard made it back into top eight the fire extinguisher exploded inside the car and he could barely even see where he was going. Besides, high tire degradation at the end prevented him from improving 14th.“It wasn´t the result we were looking for, because after the opening lap I was running 10th with 32 laps to go. We made a quite early pit stop, under the safety car period, but at the end we struggled with tire wear and, as if this were not enough, fire extinguisher has exploded and my visibility was pretty poor from then on”, Canamasas explained adding that “I have lost loads of time overtaking other cars, and a couple of them almost pushed me off the track. Tomorrow we will try to achieve our goal, collect some points, in shorter Sprint race”.
