Following another hotly-contested race this past weekendat Portland International Raceway, the battle for the GT class drivingchampionship of the American Le Mans Series continues to behotly-contested as well.
Flying Lizard Motorsports drivers Johannes van Overbeek and Darren Lawcontinue to lead the GT class driver standings following theirsecond-place class finish on Sunday at Portland. The two have finishedsecond in three consecutive races, a remarkable record of consistency,to go along with their win in late June at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Van Overbeek and Law lead the driver standings with 84 points, followedby Alex Job Racing Porsche driver Timo Bernhard with 73. Bernhard hastwo wins in the first five events of the ALMS season.
Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb, drivers of the other Alex Job entry, arethird in the standings with 72 points. Dumas and Lieb scored their firstALMS win at teammates on Sunday at Portland.
With their fourth consecutive overall race win on Sunday, setting a newseries record, Marco Werner and JJ Lehto extended their lead in the LMP1class standings, as did GTS class winners Ron Fellows and JohnnyO'Connell. Ian James maintained the LMP2 class point lead by finishingsecond at Portland though three-time race winners Clint Field and RobinLiddell have closed.
The next race for the American Le Mans Series will be the Toronto GrandPrix of Mosport at Mosport International Raceway near Toronto Aug. 6-8.
