Last call for Tour Ireland entries

The organisers of Tour Ireland have issued a last call for entries as the final touches are made to the Irish edition of Tour Britannia (13-15 May).Already assembled is a top-quality field for the UK’s only classic race and rally tour, but there are spaces left for any late entries to join this unique event.“We’ve got a great entry of Tour Britannia regulars and new competitors,” said event director Alec Poole. “But we still have a few spaces in both the Competition and Regularity events for anyone who’d like to come and join us for three days of superb motoring, sporting competition, glorious scenery and an all-round great craic!”Poole also confirmed that Tour Ireland has gained extended support from Vision Techniques, with a number of the company’s outstanding CrashCams to be awarded as prizes across both the Competition and Regularity events.Leading the entry for the Competition event is a pair of BMW M3s for Nick and Harry Whale and Adrian Kermode/Sarah Bennett-Baggs. The father and son Whale team previously won the event outright in 2009 in a Porsche 911RS. Importantly, both crews have experience of closed-road special stages in Ireland, which are a new feature of the 2015 event.Ranged against the BMWs will be a gaggle of Porsche 911s, including the cars of Stephen Radcliffe/Peter Gunson, John Spiers/Susanne Niedrum and Tony Robinson/Phil Clarke. Porsche 911s have won the last seven editions of Tour Britannia. More variety in the entry is provided by the Chevrolet Camaro of Stuart Scott/Steve Wood, the Morgan +8 of Sharlie Goddard/Suzy Harvey and the Ford Falcon of Francis Stafiopilatis/Bernie Chodosh.Real dark horses are the BDG-powered Ford Escorts of Dave Paveley/Andy Bull and last August’s Tour Britannia Index of Performance winner Mike Smith/Peter Thomas. Considerable emphasis is being placed on the Index of Performance as cars from three decades compete in the Competition event. In the concurrent Regularity event, entries include the Citroen SM of Andrew Brodie/ Richard Payne, the Lancia Fulvia of Jason Butler/Paul Graham and the Austin Allegro of Doug Dawe/Ernie Waldron.Tour Ireland will start and finish in North Wales but will take in around 24 hours in Ireland by using the high-speed ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. Following documentation and scrutineering in Llandudno on Tuesday 12 May, the tour will start early on Wednesday 13 May and finish back in North Wales on Friday 15 May. The Irish leg includes spectacular closed road special stages in the Wicklow Mountains as well as two races at Mondello Park. The route also includes two races at Anglesey and crews will make a piece of UK motorsport history by racing at two tracks in two countries on the same day.Regulations and entry forms are available from the event website: www.tourbritannia.com
