Falla close to podium in Carrera Cup GB

Jack Falla moved closer to his first podium finish in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at the world-famous Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix circuit in Belgium over the weekend (2/3 May). Falla (26) from Guernsey is racing with Redline Racing in a fiercely competitive field of 30 of the 460bhp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. The Porsche races at Spa were supporting the second round of the World Endurance Championship and Jack raced well at the high-speed track to take two fourth places in the Pro-Am1 category, missing a podium finish in the second race by 1.5 seconds.“The weekend had its ups and downs,” reported Jack. “I only got one proper lap in qualifying as there was a leak in the radiator. Fortunately, my first lap out put me 17th overall and fourth in Pro-Am1 on the grid for race one.”However, the grid for race two is formed by drivers’ second-best qualifying lap and so Jack started one from the back of the 29-car grid for the later race. After damp and wet conditions during pre-race testing and qualifying, both races ran on a dry track.“We found pace throughout the races and my last racing lap was the best of the weekend,” said Jack after an excellent weekend. “In the second race I was very close to the Pro-Am1 podium despite starting well back. I got up to 19th by the first corner and then there was a long safety car period after a big accident. I think if we’d had one more lap I could have been on the podium.” In the limited number of racing laps available, Jack climbed from 28th on the grid to finish 14th overall. The Carrera Cup GB now has a four-week break before rounds five and six at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the weekend of 6/7 June. Based on his pace at Spa, Jack will head into the next race weekend determined to claim his first podium finish.Support for Jack’s programme comes from Bausele Watches, Vesaro Simulators, Illest and Nicky Grist Motorsport Ltd.
