ECE MRS Racing dominates Porsche Carrera Cup Season Opener at Hockenheim

Incredible start to the season with untouchable dominanceChristian Engelhart is 'King of Hockenheim'Team leads Championship-Standings with a huge gap

TECE MRS Racing has dominated the start to the Porsche Carrera Cup in Hockenheim with an untouchable dominance: Fastest in Free Practice, double pole-position for both races. A straight victory in both races from start to finish and even lapping the fastest lap of the race twice. And as if that was not enough, our car number 14 driver was crowned the best-ever Porsche Carrera Cup driver here at Hockenheim.

Molitor Racing System secured a phenomenal start to the season. From the beginning until the end, no other Porsche driver could compete against the incredible performance shown by Christian Engelhart. In the first race, the 28-year-old managed an outright start-finish-victory. "It is simply unbelievable, what a great debut,” said Engelhart after the race weekend. “I am extremely happy for my new team, especially since everything has been going well right from the start and Molitor Racing Systems have done a great job. It is really their win, because they prepared the car so well. After the first lap, I had quite a big gap between me and the second-third-placed cars and I was thinking to myself where they all had gone. But they must have had some fighting and lost time therefore I was able to drive away.”

All signs were set to have a rainy race on Sunday – perfect conditions for Engelhart, who likes to compete on a wet track. Minutes prior to the race start, Race Control decided to start the race behind the Safety Car due to safety reasons. Green flags were out on lap two and from then on, Engelhart had a tough fight with the second-placed Porsche. Despite the fact, that the gap was down to a minimum in the last laps of the race, Engelhart did not give away his lead and took home the second race victory in the second race.

Richard “Spike” Goddard managed two solid races in his debut weekend at the Porsche Carrera Cup and finished both races in the centrefield. "I think I did fairly good in my first ever Porsche Carrera Cup race weekend and all in all I am happy,” said the Australian. “The start went well, but I might have gone a bit too cautious into Turn two. There were quite a few fights and I didn´t want to get involved and just cleanly drive through. I am still learning a lot about the car, especially how the car handles during a race distance. The most important thing is, I finished both races and brought the car home in one piece.”

Elia Erhart, who drives the third Porsche run by Molitor Racing Systems, finished his races in the centrefield as well. “I am fairly happy with how the weekend went, but I think I could have pulled out a little more. I will be fully focused again for the next race and will try to secure a better qualifying position in order to battle further up the field during the race.”
