NOTES OF INTERESTHistoric Road America, the longest track on the American Le Mans Series schedule, became part of the series for the first time in 2002 and quickly became a favorite stop on the schedule for nearly all ALMS drivers. The ultra-fast and long circuit contains many different types of turns, presenting both speed and the challenge that professional road racing drivers enjoy. Located halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, and only a few hours from Chicago, Road America has a tremendous drawing area of fans, including parts of Canada. Road racing began in the beautiful Elkhart Lake area many years ago and led to the building of Road America.

Last year at Road America, the race for the GTS class win came down to the last lap and was decided when Jan Magnussen passed Johnny O'Connell at the end of the track's long frontstretch, forging ahead and handing Corvette its first loss of the 2003 season. Although there have only been two ALMS races at Road America, no driver has won twice as the drivers winning the four classes were all different from 2002 to 2003. The Road America 500 will be a pivotal race in the battle for the ALMS championships as only two events will remain on the schedule following the Elkhart Lake race.
